About Uncited Press

Sci-fi research parody

Project Mission

Uncited Press is an original creative writing project that applies the rigor of an academic journal to fictional science fiction universes. Each paper takes a question that only makes sense inside a work of fiction (the histology of a Guild Navigator, the failure modes of a warp field, the signal properties of midi-chlorians) and treats it with the full apparatus of formal scholarship: a structured abstract, a methods section, statistical reporting, internal citations and a stated conclusion.

The universes covered so far include Star Trek, Star Wars and Dune, alongside other science fiction such as Iain M. Banks's Culture novels, William Gibson's Neuromancer and Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem. The humour comes from the premise, not from jokes: the papers are written straight, as a real journal would publish them.

Editorial & Human Authorship

Uncited Press is conceived, directed and edited by a human editor, a long-time science fiction reader. The editor chooses the universes and research questions, writes the canon rules and house style every paper must follow, designs the roster of fictional authors and their individual writing voices, and approves each article before it is published.

The articles themselves are drafted with AI writing tools working to that editorial brief. Every draft is then checked against automated gates for canon consistency, statistics, dates and style, reviewed, and revised until it passes. The bylines, affiliations and editorial board shown on the papers are fictional characters within the parody, not real contributors.

Disclaimer Summary

Every paper on Uncited Press is fictional literature analysis and creative fan work: commentary on, and parody of, published works of science fiction, written in the form of a research paper. No study described here was conducted, no dataset is real, and no paper should be cited or relied on as research.

Uncited Press is an independent publication and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any author, estate, publisher, studio or rights holder of the works it discusses. All names and marks belong to their respective owners.

About the Journal

Uncited Press (UP) is a satirical journal that imitates rigorous scholarship on the physical, biological, and social sciences of fictional and speculative universes. Founded on the premise that a good research paper is a good research paper regardless of which galaxy it was written in, Uncited Press applies the conventions of formal academic publishing — structured abstracts, methods sections, statistical reporting, and citation — to phenomena that exist only in fiction.

Uncited Press is a work of satirical creative writing and parody. No claim is made, implied, or intended that any organism, technology, institution, or dataset described herein exists in the real world.

Aims & Scope

Uncited Press welcomes submissions examining any aspect of any fictional universe through a scholarly lens: xenobiology and physiology, propulsion and field engineering, linguistics and neurocognition, sociology, and comparative theology, among others. Papers are expected to adopt the register, structure, and citation discipline of a genuine peer-reviewed journal, whatever the subject matter.

Editorial Policy & Peer Review (in the fiction)

All Uncited Press submissions undergo double-anonymous review by at least two members of the relevant section board. Reviewers are asked to evaluate internal consistency with established in-universe canon, methodological plausibility, and clarity of exposition, in that order.

The editorial board below, like every author on this site, is fictional. See the full disclaimer.
